It's crucial to keep a clean home if you want to reduce your allergy and asthma symptoms because your daily surroundings can directly impact both asthma and allergies. At the same time, remember to take steps to ensure that cleaning won’t irritate your asthma or allergies.
Here are five consistently forgotten spots in the home that should be deep cleaned before going into this allergy season.
CHANGING YOUR FILTERS
It would be best if you aimed to change your heating, venting, and HVAC system filters monthly, as this can help reduce asthma and allergy symptoms and their severity.

DEEP CLEAN YOUR CARPETS AND RUGS
Regularly vacuuming your carpets and rugs is an excellent way to keep dust and bacteria at bay. However, if you have asthma and allergies, you might want to go the extra mile to ensure that they're free of allergens. Be sure to give large area rugs a shakedown outside once every three to six months, and consider having your carpets and rugs professionally cleaned once a year.
If you also have bathroom mats, you should launder them once every four weeks on a hot wash to kill any bacteria and lingering smells that may be present.
CLEAN YOUR BED
We spend the majority of our time in bed, so if you have asthma or allergies, it's essential to keep your bedroom allergen-free and a safe haven for relaxation. As well as vacuuming or mopping weekly, it's also important to keep clutter to a minimum so there's less places for pesky dust mites to hide. In addition, cleaning your bed frame and bedside tables with antibacterial wipes once a week can also help reduce allergens.
You should also launder all bedsheets once a week, and consider investing in some anti-allergen beddings and pillowcases as well as a dust mite cover for your mattress for added peace of mind.
CLEANING UNDER LARGE APPLIANCES
It's easy to forget about what looms behind your fridge, stove, and laundry machine, but large household appliances are prime locations for amassing dust bunnies and bacteria.
Keep your kitchen and laundry room asthma-friendly by sweeping and mopping behind large appliances once every three months. As an added bonus, you may even find those missing socks you've been looking for!
DISINFECT YOUR REMOTE CONTROL
Remote controls are handled every day often my many people and then left around on the sofa to accumulate bacteria, making them one of the dirtiest objects in the home.
Keep your remote spic and span by cleaning it with cotton swabs and alcohol once a week. If its particularly grimy, thoroughly clean it by using a toothpick to remove all junk between the buttons. It would help if you also tackled your other handheld devices, such as phones, tablets, and laptops, to ensure they're clean and free of bacteria too.
