AireHealth Announces Issuance of Two New U.S. Patents Covering Innovative Digital Health Technology

May 05, 2022 by AireHealth

AireHealth Inc., a leading digital health company in the respiratory health space, announced today that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued two new U.S. patents covering key aspects of their innovative digital health “BreathSounds” technology. Patents 11,304,624 entitled “Method and apparatus for performing dynamic respiratory classification and analysis for detecting wheeze particles and sources,” and 11,315,687 entitled Method and apparatus for training and evaluating artificial neural networks used to determine lung pathology These patents are the latest in a long line of proprietary digital health technology belonging to AireHealth, designed to innovate care within the respiratory health space.

The patents, filed in 2018 and granted by USPTO in April 2022, are a continuation of key intellectual property underlying original U.S. Patent No. 9,814,438. As one of the pioneering patents to originate in the breath space in 2012, U.S. Patent No. 9,814,438 covers a novel and highly effective method of characterizing crackle and wheeze in audio signals in patients suffering from respiratory conditions like COPD and asthma. The newly issued patents disclose improved methods to extract respiratory signals and to teach Artificial intelligence networks to perform respiratory signal classification in order to provide actionable insights to improve respiratory outcomes.

Crackles are the clicking, rattling, or crackling noises that may be made by one or both lungs of a human with a respiratory disease during inhalation. Wheezes are whistling or rattling sounds in the chest due to obstruction in the air passages.

AireHealth’s latest patents represent over a decade of research in the field of breath sound analysis, which has the potential to impact respiratory care on a global scale. AireHealth’s BreathSounds technology permits fast and accurate analysis of hundreds of breath sounds within minutes. The key differentiator in AireHealth’s solution is its ability to bridge a gap in care between clinical and remote settings. As a modular solution, AireHealth’s proprietary feature extraction and Artificial Intelligence tools calculate and combine up to 28 dedicated descriptors along with patient data to draw valuable insights on the condition of a patient’s lungs either remotely or in the clinic.

“The issuance of our latest patents further protects and expands our position as a technology leader in the digital health space. This achievement validates more than 10 years of research and development by our dedicated team of engineers. Our technology is being translated into valuable hybrid-care medical products & services”

said Kien Nguyen, CEO of AireHealth Inc.

“This strengthens our ability to protect our proprietary technology as we continue to develop novel solutions that will enable clinical decision support in respiratory medicine”.
